Emotional Freedom Techniques

Hello! I’m so happy to have been welcomed into Sunnybrae Therapeutics and have the opportunity to share with you about Complementary/Alternative Medicine (CAM).

Over the next few posts, I’ll be introducing a few methods of healing that I practice. The list looks like this: Counselling, Reiki, Infant Massage Instruction, Eden Energy Medicine, Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), Massage, Reflexology and Hypnosis Therapy. This article will be a wee introduction to EFT, also known as Tapping.

Stress is one of the main underlying themes when dealing with health challenges. It’s when our dynamic homeostasis – that ever-fluctuating sense of wellness – gets to the edges of, and beyond, our comfort levels. There is a range of pressure that we can handle and then it’s just too much. Pain, disease, and/or emotional and spiritual challenges show up. Stress itself, though, isn’t a bad thing … it’s how we deal with it that matters the most. And having tools that are practiced a little bit can come in really handy.

Emotional Freedom Techniques is part of what makes up Energy Psychology.

The Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology, ACEP, defines, “Energy psychology (also known as cognitive somatic practices) as a family of mind-body methods that rapidly reduce stress and trauma while increasing calm. Calming the body (where stress is stored) is a missing key to unlocking rapid change. Energy Psychology (EP) methods combine cognitive interventions with somatic techniques that influence the human bio-energy systems such as meridians, chakras and the biofield to elevate physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.” (Source: energypsych.org)

Energy Psychology is evidence-based and can facilitate improvements in performance in work, sports, music, and business. It can also alleviate anxiety, trauma and other disorders. Roger Callahan developed Thought Field Therapy in the 1990s and one of his students, Gary Craig, designed a simpler method (EFT) that involves tapping on acupressure points and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. No needles are required – just your fingertips!

For more information, check out energyphych.org and eftinternational.org. These two associations are well respected and are great places to get started with research links. I attended a scientific research symposium about EFT and cancer-related issues that EFT International hosted in March. What a pleasant surprise to hear about the positive work being done in universities, hospitals and clinics in other countries! I can’t wait to tell you about it in our upcoming webinar from Sunnybrae Therapeutics. Keep an eye out for the date and time!

With self-care and prevention, we can look after ourselves a bit better and hopefully avoid hospital and doctor visits. When we can raise the bar of our ‘normal’ good health, we are less likely to get sick.

So I invite you to take a few minutes to be curious and see what works for you. My dad always said, “Asking costs nothing.” By being nosy about ways to have better health, you might just find something you like as much as your favourite dessert!

Many warm blessings and I hope to see you soon at the webinar.
